Ramneek Sidhu is a senior at the University of Washington. She is currently majoring in Communications and minoring in Marketing. Ramneek has always been passionate about writing, ever since she was young. She has been involved in many different forms of writing, including creative writing, copywriting, and even academic writing.

Early Life and Family

Ramneek Sidhu was born in the small town of Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, India. His father worked as a civil servant and his mother was a homemaker. Sidhu’s family is Sikh. He has two older sisters. When he was five years old, his family immigrated to Canada. They settled in Brampton, Ontario. Sidhu attended high school at Brampton Centennial Secondary School. He played cricket and soccer and was a member of the school’s badminton team. After graduation, he attended York University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology.

Education

Ramneek Sidhu is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests include race and ethnicity, immigration, education, and inequality. She has a BA in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles and an MA in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Teaching and Research

Ramneek Sidhu is an assistant professor of English at the Fashion Institute of Technology, State University of New York. She earned her PhD in English from the University of California, Riverside in 2020. Her research interests include postcolonial and world literatures, cultural studies, feminist theory, and global South studies.

In her role as an educator, Ramneek is passionate about teaching students to think critically about the world around them and to become engaged global citizens. In her classes, she uses a variety of pedagogical approaches, including critical theory, close reading, popular culture analysis, and writing workshops. She is also committed to working with students from diverse backgrounds and helping them to succeed in higher education.

Ramneek’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Feminist Studies, J19: The Journal of Nineteenth-Century Americanists, and The Journal of Commonwealth Literature. She is currently working on a book manuscript that examines how South Asian women writers negotiate issues of gender, race, and national identity in their work.
