The video game industry has come a long way over the 20 years, individual games and the industry as a whole. Almost gone are the days when you have to wake up at ungodly hours to go and get a copy of the newest release with digital stores and the rise of cloud gaming letting you forego installations almost entirely.

We are past the halfway mark for the year and there have many great releases, with more to come. We are looking at some of the best games of 2022 so far and the games yet to come.

Best Games So Far

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

What began as a straightforward series about mimicking classic film franchises has grown into a fully voiced epic that spans nine films. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has a large cast of characters and improved combat that gives the previously hack-and-slash gameplay more depth, showcasing the advancement of video game storytelling.

Additionally, it’s a pleasant surprise that gives players the chance to experience the legendary Death Star trench run while remixing some of movie history’s most iconic scenes to make them feel contemporary.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderland

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands feel like Borderlands’ creators are finally at ease with letting go, and they speak for themselves. Wonderlands is an upbeat journey through landscapes inspired by tabletop role-playing games, with seemingly insignificant changes that have a significant impact on the series’ “Diablo meets firearms” premise.

Combining two different character classes, navigating a board game-style overworld, and spending countless hours on the amazing “Chaos Chamber” conclusion are all options. Gearbox doesn’t take itself too seriously throughout and is ready to admit that we’re not here for a script or even a cogent narrative. It leans into that notion with an appropriately erratic tale.

OlliOlli world

OlliOlli World was just the start of a blockbuster month for video game releases in 2022. This bright and enjoyable skateboarding action-adventure game is great. The third instalment of the OlliOlli franchise is the best one thus far. It includes tons of user personalization and freedom, incredibly fluid gameplay mechanics and controls, and a killer soundtrack. Just be sure to grind and kick-flip in style with OlliOlli World, whatever you do. It certainly is the skateboarding dream of a lifetime.

Horizon Forbidden West

The superb post-apocalyptic Horizon Zero Dawn sequel from 2017 is already one of the finest games of the year. With more cities, weapons, and movement possibilities, Horizon Forbidden West expands on so much of what made the previous game wonderful. It can take a while for some of its more inventive devices to be introduced at first, but as you add more tools to your armoury, it becomes better and better.

By the end, Aloy is able to swim in the deepest seas, glide down mountains, and explore famous American sites found on the west coast. The stunning open world of this game is like a gift, and it’s simple to spend hours exploring every gorgeous nook and cranny. Unsurprisingly, the critics loved this ferocious game, giving it an average score of 88 on Metacritic and an astounding 9/10 on IGN.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Since every Pokémon game has adhered to more or less the same formula for so long before the Nintendo Switch, a change was long overdue. It’s amazing Game Freak hasn’t done this earlier because it so smoothly streamlines many of the series’ laborious elements. Just the act of collecting Pokémon in real time is now more gratifying than ever.

You could spend dozens of hours playing Pokémon Legends: Arceus finishing every quest and adding to your Pokédex. The fact that there is only one mainline version of Pokémon Legends: Arceus sets it apart from earlier games in a number of ways. This implies that every Pokémon can be acquired by you as you advance through the game, unlike most Pokémon games where you must trade with a friend to obtain special version exclusives.

Elden Ring

It is exactly the kind of game we’ve come to anticipate from developer From Software, with an environment that will take years to completely understand. However, its open-world trappings reframe much of those games’ savagery and favour gradual advancement over force rather than taking away from their problems. It’s not unusual to spend a dozen hours lost in a remote area of the globe, just to come back to a previous task as an entirely different character, equipped with additional knowledge and stronger abilities. This game is incredible.

Games Yet To Come

Forspoken

A fish-out-of-water narrative is at the heart of Square Enix’s new fantasy action game Forspoken (formerly Project Athia). A typical teenage girl from our world is sucked into a fantastical world with dragons, where she develops her own magical skills to fight off evil.

For an open-world RPG fantasy game, the creators of Final Fantasy 15 have teamed up with a powerful writing team that includes Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Amy Hennig (the Uncharted games). Young New Yorker Frey is abruptly transferred to the country of Athia as she yearns for more out of life. The Athian populace welcomes her as a saviour who must battle an evil power menacing the region.

Originally set to release in May, this game was pushed to October and has been pushed again to January 2023.

Fable 4

Xbox Series X will soon get Fable 4. Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series, previously revealed that a new Fable game was in production when Microsoft Gaming first made the announcement in 2020. A brief cinematic trailer for Fable 4 was released, announcing the series’ return after ten years of silence and showcasing a beautiful fantasy environment.

The Forza Horizon series was created by the same team that created Fable 4, so at the very least, the game will look great. But series devotees are aware that this epic action RPG’s mythology is far richer than that. Find out everything there is to know about the next release, including the crucial release date and any possible revisions.

No release date has been confirmed yet and a 2022 game might be wishful thinking.

Star Citizen

The ambitious Star Citizen project was launched by Roberts Space Industries in 2011. The goal of the game was to create a spiritual successor to prior games created by RSI’s Chris Roberts. At this moment, Star Citizen is best known for its extraordinary fundraising efforts. Developer Cloud Imperium continued to raise money after its Kickstarter campaign ended in 2012 by releasing buyable modules that are eventually going to be usable within the game.

There is no set timeline for the launch of the commercial product, and it has so far garnered more than $400 million. Despite the fact that several playable slices have been made public, there is a lot of debate about the release. It won’t most likely arrive in 2022. But many people are looking forward to their virtual journey through space as a project that is currently in development and has the potential to create a significant splash when or if it comes to fruition.

God of War: Ragnarok

The much-anticipated God of War sequel follows the tale of the god Kratos and his son Atreus. Faced with Ragnarok, or the end of the world, Kratos and Atreus. And what is the only way they can stop it? War! Then, Kratos will face off against Thor. This will be the “last Norse chapter” in the series, according to the creators. I wonder what mythological gods he can conquer next after fighting the Greek gods on Mount Olympus and the Norse gods in Midgard.

No date has been confirmed other than later this year, but these days 2023 is the new 2022.

Gotham Knights

Without Batman, who is going to guard Gotham City? Obviously, Robin, Red Hood, Nightwing, and Batgirl. And in the Gotham Knights open-world action role-playing game, no less. The game is supposed to have a smooth drop-in-and-out mechanism and can be played either solo or in a two-player co-op.

But the narrative will be distinct from the current Batman: Arkham series. The development of the Bat-family after Batman’s presumed demise and their struggle with Gotham City’s rogues’ gallery, which includes the infamous Court of Owls, will be the focus of Gotham Knights.

As of writing this article, this game’s release date is set for 25 October 2022.

Conclusion

These are only a few of the best games of 2022 and the games coming. There are many more that aren’t on this list that is still absolutely amazing. Hopefully, after reading this, you’ll go and find a new adventure.
